Bailey's Reef

The Space Coast Artificial Reef

Bailey's Reef is a premier offshore artificial reef system designed to enhance our marine ecosystem and create world-class fishing and diving opportunities for generations to come.

The Space Coast Artificial Reef Advisory Board (SCARAB) is a collaborative partnership comprised of local fishing clubs, the Florida Sport Fishing Association (FSFA), Cape Canaveral Offshore Anglers (CFOA), and Coastal Conservation Association (CCA), working alongside Brevard County Natural Resources.

Purpose & Operations

Mission

To improve and expand deep-sea fishing and diving opportunities off the coast of Brevard County by deploying dedicated, permitted artificial reefs.

Reef Constructions

The group coordinates the deployment of concrete, stone, and steel structures, like decommissioned utility poles, which attract baitfish, pelagic species, and benthic marine life.

Locations

The board has deployed several reefs 15 miles off Port Canaveral in about 80 to 85 feet of water and is actively seeking funding and permits to expand near-shore reefs around 2.5 miles offshore for better small-boat access.
